See you later ^_^

Finally, the last post of the course…again. But this is the real one, because this is the last of fourth levels courses! I was happy about doing the level three on my first semester of my first year, because I mustn't do the level one and two, but great part of my classmates were in the first or second level so I was a bit lonely, and I am still feeling a bit lonely now being the only first year student, but however I had enjoyed talking with older students and this semester English in general.
I like very much the English, it`s the most important idiom in the world at the moment, many movies, series and comics are in English and that explains my enjoyment with English. Even in the university we not always talk about very interesting topics, I liked a lot the course; I learned plenty of things, and not only English. Doing the blogs sometimes was very boring and tiring, but somehow I think it was funny after all, also it worked like a distractions for the other stressful subjects and for discover new things. Before I did the course I thought I could go to USA or to UK and not having problems with the dialect, but now I know that I have to improve a lot my talking and my listening. I read manga in English so maybe in that aspect I am not in the danger of stop reading in English. But in the other aspects I need to plan how I can keep practising English. Maybe watching American series without subtitles could help me in the listening part, and I could keep writing stuff in English, but in the speaking part I don’t know how I could do it…I will think on some way.

Anti-Bullying

Bullying seems to one of the most important topics when we are talking about education. Not only the parents are worried about bullying, the teachers, the principals and even the governors take the responsibility in this problem. We are recently knowing how big is this problem, bulling doesn't only affect to those children with special needs or disabilities but also it affects to the children with talents and because of being afraid of being victim of bullying again they stop doing the activities they often do. Some schools have had problems dealing with bullying; these schools don’t even recognise they have bullying issues, and this is an important matter for resolve the problem. Some strategies to face bulling are for example; create a vertical tutor groups system when the students are able to make bonds with older and younger mates which help the students’ to create a family atmosphere. Other strategy in elementary school is the “playground buddies” system, in which an older child, help a child who might be lonely or scared at playtime by playing with he, so is less probable to him to be bullied. Something similar is developed in secondary for the sake of make the students empathize each other. There is also a strategy which aims to teach about the issues of using violent, sexual or homophobic vocabulary; we have to remember that bulling is not only physic violence. Now in the modern ages the bullying has also expanded the internet, but some teachers say that it’s not so difficult if we teach what is right and what is wrong in the internet interactions. Some teachers give a text number and an email address that pupils can use so they can felt secure. This is very related to educational psychology; there are plenty of strategies for affront bulling, I think we just have to put it on practice.

Tekkonkinkreet

OK, I’ll be talking about the movie which is the title.  It’s a Japanese animation movie called Tekkon Kinkreet, the title comes from a mispronunciation of “Tekkin Konkurito” which means steel reinforced concrete. In fact the movie is an adaptation of a manga (Japanese comic) by Taiyou Matsumoto. I saw it like two weeks ago in my home; more specifically in the sofa with my notebook. I get interested in see this movie because my favorite band did the credits song of the movie. The story follows two brothers Shiro (white) and Kuro (black) and how they live as orphan in a wild city. I enjoy this movie because it`s very complete film: a psychological drama with a lot of action and a really emotive message. I downloaded this movie like three times because at the first time it was dubbed in Latin Spanish, and it was a god dub, but I wanted to see it with the original voices in Japanese, with English or Spanish subs of course.
The Japanese’s voice actors are very professional; they really catch the character personality. Kazunari Ninomiya, the voice for Kuro, the older brother knew how to be the serious brother and the craziest at the same time, and Yu Aoi, the voice for Shiro was able to make me feel the innocence and the wisdom of the character.  If you like Japanese animation movies this is a must see, and if you’re not too much into it it’s the chance to try something new…you will not regret it!

About the recent elections

So, it’s finally time for talking on politics. But don’t get me wrong; I am not so interested in this topic, it’s just I expected to talk on this sometime in the semester.  In fact, I didn't go to vote because I didn't know for which candidate vote; well, there was some of laziness of my part too. But I think that if I had has the conviction to vote for one or another, I would go to vote. I didn't know because the mayor in El Bosque, Sadi Melo had been in power since 1992 and I don’t know if it’s because he had done a great job as a Mayor or because he is very popular in the municipality. About the vote being voluntary, I agreed with that because that way the votes reflect the true voice of each municipality, for example, the people who really want to make a change or really wants to preserve its mayor will go to vote for its convictions; and the people who don’t mind if there is a change or if all remains as always or even the people who are not sure of what they want, have not the obligation of going to vote. I think that way the votes reflect the true intentions of the people in a municipality. So it’s not so relevant the fact that so many people did not vote because if those people really wants a change or not, they have the opportunity of vote. To finish I will say that I think that what I’m saying is very well reflected in the recent elections because there were many changes and the people looked very happy about ones of them, Providencia for example.

Alberto Hurtado

Okey, I know. It's strange that I, an unbeliever person, think that a religious figure it's the greatest Chilean, but I preferred to talk on him than talk on a Chilean musician or a politician.
Alberto Hurtado was a Chilean Jesuit priest, founder of Hogar de Cristo; he is officially a saint of the Catholic Church since 2005. I choose him because he did a lot of things related to help the neediest. When he was young he was always worried about the topic; he wanted to bring the youth and the poor closer to the church. Later, he did his most important deed when in 1994 laid the foundation stone for the construction of the principal place of the Hogar de Cristo.
If Alberto Hurtado was still alive I would like to ask him about his opinion about actual problems, like the education and the problem with the Mapuches, I think that would be very interesting.
I don´t know very much about this person, but once I watched a biographic documental about him when I was younger and I think that marked me very much in my way of thinking, even I’m not a Christian or a Catholic anymore.
A thing I remember about that documental is that Alberto Hurtado always saw Jesus in every vagabond he helped, and once he really helped Jesus or something like that, it was so long time I see that documental I don’t remember it very well xD.

Practise For The Final Exam

Hello, sorry for posting so late. That was because after doing all the activities I didn't have time for posting. Maybe I was a little too slow, but the true is that there were a lot of activities, and it wasn't so easy to answer each one. The first part was reading, that wasn't so difficult, because I'm always reading English, and also it was interesting because it wasn't to read a text and answer questions, there were most interpretative question, so it was a bit more difficult but I like it. The second was listening, that it's more difficult for me because I'm not so used to hear English(I often hear Japanese ,and Spanish of course) but I didn't did it so bad at all, I got 4/7 and  4/6, the conversations in the listening mentioned all the alternatives so for answer I had to put much concentration into it. Then the third part was vocabulary, I got 19/25, it was easy but I was getting tired at that time. The third part was writing, it was harder than expected, but that's fine so I can know the level of the final exam and get prepared.

A Lively Present

Well, this present wasn`t directly for me, but at last it was like it was mine. It was like two or three years ago In Christmas. It’s normal to receive the presents at night or at the next morning, but that Christmas I received a very special box a lot earlier than expected, I was in my house with a friend when my parents arrived with that box and a smile in her faces. Inside the box was a little black dog, it was so cute that everybody couldn’t do anything but smile like sillies. In fact the present was for my sister, she always wanted a doggie, me too, but I never thought that we could have one, because we live in an apartment and so. But how it was a little dog it was no problem. As it was for my sister, we had to keep the secret until the night, so we played with the doggie until that time. I remember that the doggie licked us like we were chocolate bars, it was so funny that I almost die laughing, but now that I think about it, it was very unhygienic. Later in the night we gave the present to my sister, she was very happy with the present. But with the time she stops giving much attention to the doggie so I was the one to take care of Crispi, the little black doggie I will never forget...because Crispi died a year after that Christmas :(

First Day at University

The first thing I’m going to say about my first day at the university is that I was very nervous about what would going to be that very first day. I already had been in FACSO before because the year before I did a summer course about psychology, yeah; I think I came back after a year because I liked a lot that course. In that summer course I knew some people that a would met again a year after in the first day at university, but sadly, that people were put in the 2nd section and I was in the 1st so I had to make new friends and that got me very nervous because I use to be very shy in that kind of situation. Now that day wasn't so terrible because that day, and all the first week, was like an “Introduction week” and we hadn't classes at all, maybe we had only a class on Friday but I don`t remember it very well and that’s other story. The thing I will always remember about that day is that we did a game for “break the ice”, we had to get signatures of our classmates but to get them we had to ask for something that it could be something in common, for example: a signature of someone with your same color hair. That way, we had find people with someone in common and get the signatures, it was a total chaos but I enjoyed it a lot.

Fiestas Patrias

For Fiestas Patrias I usually go to Fondas with my family, or I spend time with my cousins and my sister and sometimes we go to Melipilla to a cabin of a friend of my mom. There we use to play typical Chileans games, it could be named like an Olympics Chilean games because we play a lot of those games: sack race, three-foot race, jump the rope, pull the rope, fly kites, etc. Well, the past 18 I did all of that things, on Monday I went to Parque Padre Hurtado in Las Condes to the Fonda, on Monday we went to Melipilla and on Thursday we spend the afternoon with my cousins. I get tired with that itinerary so I rest on Wednesday and on Thursday I played basketball with my friends in the morning and then we played videogames in the afternoon so I get tired again. The rest of the week was for study ,so I think the next holyday I will keep in my bed and rest all the day because this last week didn’t represent a rest at all.

I think this past holiday was memorable, although I always will remember another 18 I enjoyed a lot. It’s not only a memorable 18, in fact it was the first (and the only one) time that I traveled outside of Chile. That time I went to Mendoza to celebrate Chile’s Independence, maybe that sounds weird but it was really funny: In 18th we went to a plaza named Chile and in there was a Fonda like in Chile, it makes me realize that so many Chileans celebrate 18 on other countries. I hope that all of that people enjoy remembering his original country.

A friend of mine

Hello everyone, I'm going to talk about a friend of mine. He it’s not my best friend but I can tell some interesting things about him. We are ex classmates now, I met Lucas in the school in…I think 6th grade, but I’m not too sure; the point is that he was a year with us and then he went to Israel, so when he came back he told us his experiences out of Chile and becomes a really interesting person. I remember that he had rol’s dices, those with twenty faces and with those we played something like dungeons and dragons, and also he drew all the characters in the game, that’s something important about him: he is an excellent artist, I mean, he is not an artist, but he is good at drawing, he is planning to do a comic right now and he ask his friends for help but I think I left the matter a little.
We have a lot of things in common: we play basket, both of us like the anime, video games and all those things, we both play guitar as well and I’m planning to draw a comic too…even I’m not as good at drawing like he.
Recently we don’t see each other too much, because of the university responsibilities, he is studying informatics engineer so we see us a few times to play basket, play wii, or also in the ex class meetings.

My 2012 untill now

I think my first term was a hard one because it was the first term of my first time in a University. It was so hard that I remember it like an entire year even it was like only six months. In fact, I think I learned so many things like in a year; finally I understood what means right and left in politics, it’s funny but in the subjects that I thought there was no relation with the career, was where I learned the most, like in Philosophy and Social History of Chile.

In the last  semester I didn’t did much sports, I only played basket with my friends but not so many time because, like me, they entered to the University and they don’t have so much time. Even last semester I was in lack of time, I think it was a good for leisure: I went to the cine with my college mates a pair of times, I downloaded a lot of music, I watched a lot of anime and read a lot of manga and I learned a pair of songs on the guitar.

In the last semester I had to get used to travel an hour every day to the University from my house and also get used to that the grades I got in the University were lower than in the school. I made new friends and learned a lot so it was a very good year…no, sorry, semester!

About Santiago

Hello! Today I have to talk about Santiago, and that’s a bit problematic for me because even I had lived all my life in this city, I don’t know it too much. But there are things I like about this city. For example I like that there are places in Santiago for each person. There are a lot of restaurants of different kinds, different ways of entertainment and a lot of different shops to buy what you want. You only have to search for the place you like to go. And there it’s a “but”. There are things you only can do outside of Santiago, like going to beach of course. Now there are things I dislike of Santiago too, I hate how the subway and the public transport Transantiago get full of people at the peak hour;  maybe it’s normal to big cities like Santiago and maybe it’s worst in other cities in Japan for example, but I think it’s a think nobody likes. I don’t think Santiago it’s a bad place, but it would be a better place if the people in Santiago were nicer with the other people, any place would be a good place if the people in there is nice, well maybe that’s my naive idea. To finish I would say only one tip to the visitors of Santiago: have fun! …and take care of the thieves! That’s all ,see you.

About Assange's case

I think this case it’ very interesting because for me it’s like a fight between an ant and a giant. Evidently, here the ant is Julian Assange and his friends and the giant is the United States and his friends. This tiny ant is accused of revealing confidential information and also he is accused of sexual abuse in Sweden, we all know that the first part is true…because of that he made famous, but like a psychologist would say, it depends…it depends in what we mean by crime, for me what Julian Assange did with the information it`s not a crime. Sexual abuse it’s a crime but I’m not so sure about his culpability. It seems to be a political persecution, so in this case I think the Ecuatorians were right to offer him political assignments. I don’t think there will be a winner in this fight, although all indicates that the US has more influences to fulfill their purposes.

Here Is The Last One~

This last post is about another of those talks with interesting topics; this time it´s name is The Divided Brain by McGilchrist.
Talk about the brain isn´t a simple thing because the brain isn’t a puzzle with different parts and every part it´s a function of the brain. The brain it´s a complex system made of connections. But whit this talk we can say that the brain has two hemispheres with some differences between them. These hemispheres were forming along the evolutionary chain until now where we have a right hemisphere and a left hemisphere well differenced and connected by the corpus callosum.
Even the hemispheres have some differences McGilchrist breaks the myth of the reason, emotion, language and vision being in only one hemisphere; those things are all connected with the two hemispheres, the same goes with the imagination.
The principal difference between the two hemispheres is the perspective or the level of generalization of things.  Meanwhile you use the right hemisphere for things more sustained, broad, open, and vigilant, the left hemisphere is narrower, sharply and focused.
Those two sides are always trying to inhibit each other. But it´s not like one side is better than the other; we need to use both sides in order to equilibrate the two points of view… “Too close you can’t see anything; too far you can read it”
Well, that everything folks, maybe I will keep writing here, maybe not, who knows.
Now I´m going to study for the last tests, see you~.

About English Classes

Hello everyone, this post is about my experience of studying English at the university. Yeah, I’m studying English at this precise moment doing this blog.
When I was in the school, I had English classes too; but they weren’t like talking in English with the teachers or my classmates, we have to work in computers sometimes but it wasn´t too funny. Now, studying English at the university has been much funnier than at school; I think it have been useful because I have had a lot of practice at speaking about a lot of topics and writing this long in English.
There are two things about this course that could improve: first there was two “webquest” that asked us to search thing on the web and then send them…it was so boring and I think it was no so useful, but in other hand those works give us easy grades so it´s not so bad after all. The other thing that could be improved is adding more interesting topics to talk in classes like we did a pair of times, like asking the students what they want to talk next class so they can think what to say before the class begins.
I have to write another post and study so here ends this post. Bye~

You know what`s Prosopagnosia?

Hi bloggers, today I’ll write about an article at www.guardian.co.uk related to psychology.
Did you hear any about prosopagnosia before this post? Because it’s the first time I read that word.
Turns out that Prosopagnosia (or face-blindness) it`s a disorder of face perception, it means that sufferers have problems to remember faces. According to the piece of news I read, 2.5% of the population might have developmental prosopagnosia; so it`s more common than it looks.
Prosopagnosia can affects suffers in different ways, like a kid who cannot remember his friends in school, a teacher who don`t recognize her students , people who can`t recognize their own face in a photo or even a more serious problem like not being able to recognize your boss or your girlfriend or boyfriend.
Also this problem is related to others perception disorders like identifying other people's emotional expressions or judging age or gender of faces.
Like you can imagine with the examples I write, it can turn in a terrible embarrassment or affect the sufferers’ social aptitude and employment options.
So, in order to help this people, there is a group of psychologist investigating about this disorder. They want to provide evidence that confirm their hypothesis of the Prosopagnosia being a hereditary and physiological rather than a psychological problem.
If you want to know more about prosopagnosia, help in the investigation or check if you have prosopagnosia go to the link above. That`s all, bye bye.

Education

Hello, today I will write about another talk of Sir Ken Robinson, this time the topic is “Changing education paradigms”.
At the beginning of the talk, Sir Robinson talks about the education paradigms in public schools at the moment, there are two aspects of those paradigms causing important problems about how and what’s for  are we teaching our kids.
The first thing causing the problem is that the currently education paradigm is trying to teach our kids how to take their place in the economies, and the second one is that at present the education is giving our kids a cultural identity that “try to square the circle”, so the cultural differences are maximized thanks to the globalization and the education.
Those thing cause many problems related to the talk I write before this, this system isn`t properly educating, what this system is doing is forming “productive people” and the persons that aren`t productive by their own standards are removed from the system.
This system was conceived in the enlightenment in the industrial revolution`s economic circumstances so we need to actualize this system of public education giving importance to develop to the fullest the skills of our children.
In my opinion, I think that all I write up there, and what Sir Robinson says, is very important and we need a new system. I think the problem is that the system is very attached at he present so the process will be slow.

I can't think in a original title because mi imagination was murdered

Hello dear readers, this post is about a Ken Robinson's talk concerning how creativity is being “killed” by the actual education, you con search the video by “Ken Robinson says schools kill creativity”.
First he talks about human creativity and how amazing it is, he says every kids born as artist but the problem is that they grow up trough a school that restrict his creativity. So he purpose we should treat creativity as important as literacy in schools.
In the talk, he does a relation between the creativity in kids and his preparation to be wrong; when we are kids we don’t ‘know so much about the world so if a kid have to answer something that he don`t know , he will use his creativity to try to go out with a answer. But when we grow up we learn through education many things and we are not,
What education is doing now is to creating people with a degree but education isn't stimulating his intelligence at all. Ken said that adolescents come back from university with a degree but they don’t work and keep in house playing video games because the education they had didn't develop his full potential as a young student.
What I wrote up there is a brief summary about the talk’s topics, but that talk wasn't just explaining ideas, he frequently said jokes and anecdotes giving to the talk a similar atmosphere to a humour monologue.
That’s all this week, bye bye everyone!

The photo and the mustache

Hello everybody, sorry for the delay. You sure have seen the photo on the left, well; this post is about that photo. That guy in the photo is me, two years ago. It was taken by a classmate... I don´t remember exactly who take it anyway.
This isn’t a normal personal photo; I was wearing PE uniform since it was a school trip, and I’m wearing glasses because I was trying to look alike a teacher for an activity in which we had to perform a typical class situation.
This photo is funny because to start, I´m similar to that teacher and for being identical, the members of my group painted a mustache on me. If you know me in person, you will know that I have real mustache at present, so the only thing to being identical again is to wearing glasses! …maybe in a year or two I will be using glasses since I´m getting myopic for spending so much time on the computer xD.

5 Centmeters Per Second

I don`t know if it`s my favorite movie, but it`s one of the best(and saddest) films I have ever seen. I`m talking about 5 Centimeters per Second, a Japanese Animated feature Film by Makoto Shinkai.
It`s a Drama and Romance movie, the story centers in a boy named Takaki Tono, he quickly befriends with Akari Shinohara because they have similar interests and attitudes. The time goes on and the relationship between Takaki and Akari get deeper. Unfortunately one day Akari  moves to a faraway place in Japan; even though they keep in contact by sending letters , the distance between each other is too much…and I`m not talking only about distance: the two have fewer to tell each other in the letters.
Maybe you will be thinking “How sad! :c”
Well, it get worse more and more during the film. Now Takaki will be moving to an island even more far away from Akari, so he decides to personally go see Akari, since they will be too far apart to visit each other at all after moving. This is my favorite part of the movie, when Takaki travel several hours in order to see Akari and finally tell him his feelings, it`s so emotive because due to a snowstorm the travel get very difficult.
This isn't even the first of the three parts of the movie but I expect to you seeing how this story ends.
Makoto Shinkai  is Known for his animation films Voices of a Distant Star, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, Children who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below. In this films Makoto ads Science fiction and fantasy topics but in 5 Centimeters per Second the reality is the strong point unlike his others films.
I feel like I wrote down so little, but I`m already over the 250 words so that`s all for this post, don`t forget to see the film if you haven't!

Ikio and his bike

Hello everyone, today I`m writing about a story of a man and his Harley-Davidson, but is not a ordinary man, he is Ikio Yokoyama, a victim of the tsunami in Japan the last year, he is alive obviously, but he lost his home, three family members…and his bike (I`m sorry if that sounds harsh). Anyway, the last month many things have been founded in the coasts of North America coming from Japan, for example last month a Japanese fishing boat and lighter items, such as buoys and bottles, and recently was found in a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. This bike was discovered by Peter Mark on 18 April on the coast of an island in British Columbia, Canada.
I can`t imagine the surprise Mr. Yokoyama feel when he saw his bike on the TV, because he recognize his bike! He said "When I looked at the picture he took, I knew immediately it was my bike""This is unmistakably mine""It's miraculous."

Indeed, it`s very uncommon find thing you lose long ago, but losing it in the sea!? Finding it 6,400km far away in another continent!? That`s far too magical, even coming from Japan…well sometimes reality surpass fiction.
The shop that sold the motorcycle to Mr. Yokoyama is now hoping to ship the Harley-Davidson back to Japan and restore it, so Mr. Yokoyama is going to ride in his bike again very soon, I hope.
This odd news make me remember when I lost my Digimon toys in the beach when I was a Kid (;_;) so if there is any Japanese people reading this post please take care of my lost toys. xD

My Laptop

Hello everybody, This week`s post will be about a piece of technology indispensable for my life style: my laptop.
My laptop is black and is a Dell and that`s all I know about it, XD I search it on Google and is a Dell Inspirion 15, yeah I don’t’ know so much about laptops, I only use it.I got it like three years ago; my parents gave it to me as a Christmas present, my parents told me that if I was a good boy they will buy me a laptop...but that was like five years before I requested the laptop! So it was a big surprise find the laptop under the Christmas tree because after all that time I forget about it XD.
Since my parents gave me my laptop I use it whenever I have the time and the desire. That means like more than five hours per day, in that time I do a lot of things: Download and watch anime and manga, listen music, learn songs on the guitar use facebook and recently studying and doing works for university.
I don’t know how would be my life without my laptop, maybe would be a healthy life for my eyes XD. That`s all folks, enjoy the long weekend! If you can of course...

Asian Kung-Fu Generation

Today I will talk (write) about my favorite music band: AKFG (for short).
AKFG is a Japanese alternative/indie rock band. They are 4 members: Gotoh Masafumi guitar, vocal and songwriter; Kita Kensuke guitar; Yamada Takahiro Bass; Ijishi Kyoshi drums.
I knew the band for the first time when I saw the second opening of the anime Naruto, the name of the song of that opening is Haruka Kanata, I like that song because they make me feel the intensity even if I don`t know what the lyrics are talking about, it’s the same with all of their songs they can make me feel sadness, happiness, enthusiasm, nostalgia and others feelings without knowing the meaning of the lyrics, because most of the lyrics are in Japanese. However I look for the translations of the lyrics of some songs, but sometimes even reading the lyrics in English or Spanish, I don`t understand because the use many metaphors (XD)
I can`t go to Japan so is impossible to go a concert, but my dream is to go Japan and listen him in live.
There are so many good songs so is difficult to have a favorite one; however here is the video-clip of Atarashii Sekai(the song who give the name to this blog).

That`s all for today, if you want more information go to http://www.akfgfan.com or wikipedia or google xD
Bye Bye :D

WAZZUUUUPP!!!

She is my kitty, Mimi...WAAAAASAAAAAAAAAA!

My first Blog

Hello everyone, I am Alfonso Araya and this is my blog. I am 18 year old and I am in my first year of university studying psychology in Universidad de Chile. That`s in real life, because in the Internet I am Skam, that's the reason of  the URL of the blog. Now you will ask what`s Atarashii sekai...well that`s a song from Asian Kung-Fu Generation, a JRock Band from Japan(search it on youtube later) and i was thinking on blogging abut them or about what I learn in university or about anime and manga or whatever interesting happening to me, so follow if you are interested ;).

By the way I `m not an otaku so don`t hate me please xD
